lyrics

I walked among the fallen flowers in the dirt along the road that Sunday morn as I was tryin'a find my way back home

I splashed the water in my face from yonder creek below the bridge to ease my pulsing head and try to wake my sleepy bones

But for the life of me, I just could not remember what she said just as her bed rose up to meet us and we fell like stones into a wishing pool below

And I'm tryin'a find my way back home

I stayed awhile in the water in an effort to remember anything about the girl I'd just begun to know

But then my headache would return and any memory of her face would up and vanish like confetti jubliantly thrown

Without a hint of curiosity, or glance below the covers where she slept, I'd up and left my jacket hung upon a post at her bed corner, now I'm cold and soaked

And I'm tryin'a find my way back home

Just then a Mama Bear came trundlin' through the woods toward the creek and laid her eyes on me and howled out a beastly groan

And then the pain went from my head, replaced by fear, and I stood up and said, "Now, Mama Bear, why don't just leave me alone?"

To my surprise and in the friendliest of sympathetic tones, the bear replied, "Now boy, did you forget you left your coat inside my room, you were so quick to go?

"And I'm just wishin' you would come back home..."
