Red Pen

Waiting on the side of the road
Withering beside the road, my future passed
Man with the gun said go
Man with the gun said race and I came last
Watching the tumbleweeds
Watching the dead things speed, I hold fast
Waiting for the clock to chime
Withering before my time, I won’t last
I spoke too soon
What’s worse is I
Never stood up until my feet were cold.
My legs are numb
My toes are tired
They won’t take me anywhere in this world
Waiting on the edge of the earth
Waiting in the mocking dirt, roll around
Man with the red pen sighs
Brings it between my eyes, marks me down
Man with the silver watch
Says my time is up, get gone now
Waiting with the words in my lungs
Swore I wouldn’t bite my tongue, but I just breathe out
I stood too soon
What’s worse is I
Never spoke up until my thoughts were cold
My toes are numb
My words are tired
They won’t take me anywhere in this world

Drip drop rain falls on pains
Wash away the weather
Only grey drip drop fade
Syncopated water

Satellite

Drifting off into space, the satellite rears its empty head
Subtlety and machinery, together in one place
You'll never guess who it made famous in the end
Because all of that's as insignificant as needles in a haystack
Trailing off into space, the satellite opens its tired eyes
And becomes human again, but doesn't have to breathe this time
You'll never guess what it made: amends within itself that day
Because all of that was forgotten once it saw its destination
Spiraling around the bend, the satellite comes to a rest
Looks to see where it is, and deliberately draws a breath
You'll never guess what then: the satellite decided to die
It said if I can live with that, then I can die and be content
